About Dr. Frederick N. Lukash
Professional Statement
Dr. Lukash is a pioneer in body image issues from children to adults. His main focus is to help his patients feel comfortable in their own skin. Dr. Lukash has a great understanding that people in general have difficulty in emoting feelings about their body, be it congenital, traumatic, or aesthetic. He has used art as a non-verbal vehicle before and after surgery to understand and appreciate the angst of his patients.
To make this happen, Dr. Lukash works closely with specialists in art therapy and child psychiatry. Dr. Lukash also wrote a remarkable article called "Children's Art as a Helpful Index of Anxiety and Self-Esteem with Plastic Surgery" (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: 109:6 May 2002).
Dr. Lukash also has a strong commitment to community service. He volunteers his free time and expertise to "Surgical Aid to Children of the World" and "Operation Smile" so that kids can have a better life.
